Decor Elements From Tami's Daughter!

Hello everyone, I'm Liz, Tami's daughter. I've been around Stampin' Up since I was 3 years old. I have helped my mom through thousands of projects, attended a few conventions and decorated my fair share of apartment walls. I will be doing a few blogs a month here so look out for my fun projects! I live in a 700 square foot 1 bedroom apartment, with not a lot of space, so most of my projects are on a limited supply area. I have a small box with all of my stamping supplies so anyone living in a small space can do these projects!

I recently graduated college and now live in an apartment in Oregon. My decoration skills were used in the bedroom and I had two walls to deal with. Here is the before picture:

Since we are renting this apartment, I didn't want to put any holes in the walls, so I turned to Decor Elements. I used the Direction of Your Dreams Decor Elements over our headboard. This one is pretty easy to put on the wall. You just need to make sure you put it on straight and centered over the headboard. I used a level to make sure it was straight.

I didn't want the author on my wall, so I just avoided rubbing that one onto the wall. After I made sure it was straight and centered I began to rub it onto the wall. One thing I have learned about my other decor elements on textured walls, is that it does not stick as well. You need to rub it a lot, as well you need to take the paper off SLOWLY to make sure you don't lose any dots for the I's or tear any letters. Here is the finished product:

For the other wall I got a little more adventerous. I went to a home decor store and bought some 5x5" mirrors. I put those together with the Garden Gate and Swirly Medallion Tile Decor Elements. After getting these all together, I started to lay it out and apply the Decor Elements. I wanted it to be classy and not like a huge chunk of mirrors.

I thought of putting the Swirly Medallion Tile onto the mirrors to give it a little texture. All I did was cut it down the middle and put it together on the corners. I did this for the two Swirly Medallion's and I put the Garden Gate Tile onto the wall in place of a mirror. This was a difficult project to make sure the spacing was correct throughout the wall as well as straight. Even though all the troubles and difficulty, I love love love my final product! It is girly but has class and makes the bedroom ours instead of a place we are renting!

My daughter's Project

My daughters roommate was turning 21 and Liz wanted to make her something.  I suggested a frame and with a little direction this is what she came up with.  The frame is the basic frame in the Decor Elements catalog.  She put some of the white butterflies all over.  She says there are enough butterflies to do 2 more frames.  Then she put the Dream Decor Elements  over the top and added some pearls.  Here are some close ups.

 

Thanksgiving Display - It is all in the Details!

When I opened up my box of Thanksgiving decorations (something I haven't done in a couple of years!)  I found these little pumpkins and candle holders.  What nice surprises.  The pumpkins had raffia and plastic flowers and stuff on them so I updated them a little and wrapped a piece of Autumn Spice Designer Series Paper around the candle

Does this tree look familiar?  It has been to many of our Expo booths.  Used it as part of the display to hang one end of the banner from.  I was having a hard time figuring out where to attach the other end  and make it high enough to go above the frame. 

A couple of bobbins stacked on top of each other worked perfect and added to the details.

The little pine canes are from the Big Shot  Table setting die that I then textured with an embossing folder.  The die cuts a spiral you just wrap up and then when you let go it makes these great pine cones.  I made each ornament with one soft suede and one early espresso pine cone that I attached with the large eyelets.

The leaves were cut with the Big Shot leaves die, then I sprayed with smooch spritz and wadded up.  After unraveling, I attached them together with trinkets safety  pins, brads and put some more leaves on the back to cover the mechanics.  Then a safety pin on top to hang it by.  Aren't they cool?

When I had this arrangement all together, I realized I had this Decor element and wanted to put it some where!  The actual Decor Element has the wheat on the bottom.  When I cut them apart they fit perfect on the front of my antique school desk. 

Well, I hope you enjoyed from little display!  It was definitely fun to create and made me feel a little better!

A Fun Day

Today I put together this fun display in my entry. This weekend I was not feeling so good and thought some crafting would do me some good.  It isn't very often I just get to craft for fun - not prepping for a class, workshop or expo!  So Saturday I started out with the Decor ELement Frame.  I have made one for Halloween and Christmas so I felt that I needed one for Thanksgiving. 

Covering the frames are really easy with the Big Shot Adhesive available in the Holiday Mini.  I stamped a few of the big medalions from Day of Gratitude in Early Espresso on the Early Espresso paper. 

Add a few pearls and ribbon frosting and it looks great. 

The hardest part of working with the frames is the inside of the inner square.  Trying to cover it neatly if you don't want the white.

I wanted this sentiment for the center but the stamp in the stamp set was too small.   THen I remembered that I had bought the digital download of this set for My Digital Studio so I printed out a larger version - making it the perfect size for the opening.

For this one I used some gold waffle paper and glued it up and over the edge and then layered the leaves over the edge and sprayed some log cabin smooch spritz to help cover the edge.  By covering with the gold waffle it just made sure no white showed through.

A little More Candy Cane Christmas!

Here us another view of the Candy Cane Christmas section.  You can see the frame, platter and blocks I had previously posted.  Ther large framed decor elements is so cool.  I am planning to do one for my house in the old olive color with gold waffle paper in the background, since this will go with my house better.

The name of the Decor Element is Mistletoe and comes in either Real Red and black or Old Olive and Black.

The cupcakes were pretty dang tempting.  It was amazing they made it to the end of the show!

The cupcake cozies are made using the Perfect Setting die for the big shot. It was then textured with the texturz plates.

These nesting boxes  were made by covering simple boxes with Candy Cane Designer Series Paper.  Note how cute the fabric collar made with the coordinating Candy Cane Fabric is!

Silver Platter Makeover

Do you recognize this platter?  Platter  Yep, that is the same platter.  I just peeled off the old Decor Element and remade it with this tree from the Candy Cane Christmas collection. The rick rack fabric I made with the Terrific Trims for the Big Shot.  Tied on the button and added some rhinestones!  Pretty Cute?  These Decor Elements are way too easy and fun.

Bundles for Holiday Crafting

Stampin' Up! has a new promotion starting today.  A variety of bundles to help with your Christmas crafting.

Giant Card or what?

So I don't exactly know what to call this.  I ordered the Decor Element Tree thinking I would put it on my garage door.  But my sense of size was not so good and it was too small.  So I pulled this stretched canvas out and started playing around.  This is what I ended up with.  Not sure what I think but I will keep it.  Here are some details, some of the paper is flocked so in person there is quite a lot going on.

I used some Black jewels from the Holiday Mini to highlight some branches of the tree.  The bats are flocked from the paper in the Idea Book and Catalog.

Spooky needed to be brought out a little so I brushed it with Crystal Effects and added chunky black glitter.

Some more jewels - never have enough bling.

I put chunky black glitter on the happy halloween in the spider web to make it stand out.

On a side note before my surgery I started make 10 of the haunted houses for center pieces at a golf dinner coming up.  I finished them all yesterday - great therapy!  I will post a picture of the tables when they are all done!  Actually very easy project to create multiples of for center pieces and very cost effective.

Halloween Decor Class

I have a group of classes planned to make a really cool Halloween Montage. This is the first part.  The frame is so cool.  The Luminaries are especially cool with the little electric tea lights inside.

Wall art!

When setting up for the Scrapbook Expo Booth we ended up with a blank space and an extra scrapbook page!

 

This is the page I made with My Digital Studio.  I had added some punched flowers and stuff.  So we decided to see if we could make some sort of wall art with a stretched canvas.  Off we went to one of the big box stores which had canvases on sale for 50% off! Even BEtter.  We took it home and coated the canvas with a coordinating acrylic paint we had picked up mixed with a gold glaze.

 

The cool streakyness is from adding the glaze.  With ribbons in Pear Pizzaz, Old Olive and Certainly Celery we were on a roll.

 

Staple the ends of the ribbon to the back of the canvas and weave them across the front.

 

We put white brads through where the ribbons crossed, and added some Big Shot Fancy Flowers out of Designer Series Paper.  We also put on a Decor Element that is a Level 2 Hostess gift.  This is a little tricky on the canvas since it is not hard.  You have to put a book beneath to have something to rub against.

 

A few chipboard letters covered in Designer Series Paper, a couple of more pictures and look at this great wall art you have?  My daughter who showed up a few minutes after we finished it (that is her and me in the picture!)  Actually thinks she is getting this.  I might have to make her another one since this one is now hanging in my studio.  Here it is in the booth:
 

See how it just perfectly filled that blank space?  I am thinking of doing some sort of class like this - let me know if this appeals to you!  Don't you think this would make a great Holiday Card holder?

My Tree & Suitcases!

When we were brainstorming what we could use in the Scrapbook Expo booth one of the things I pulled out of the closest is my vintage tree that I put some of my extra special Christmas Tree ornaments  on.  I never thought of using it for anything else.  Here is what we did with it.

 

Isn't this awesome?  We made all kinds of cute little things.  I posted a few of them earlier.

Tree Decorations.  Aren't the suitcases cool that we stacked them on?  3 of them are Elizabeth P. but the bottom one is MINE!  Recently we were visiting my Mother-In-Laws and my husband was helping her clean out some stuff and then we later headed to drop it off at a donation.  I flipped out they were going to get rid of it!  It has the wooden hangers and everything inside.  What were they thinking?

When we were decorating the booth we had a blank spot that we moved this into and just loved it but it was too short. So we went to the craft store and bought a paper mache hat box and came home and decorated it. Didn't it make the perfect addition?  Here are some close ups.

 

I used one of the decor stencils and it took all of about fifteen minutes to stencil around the box.  I sprayed it a little with smooth spritz which doesn't show in the picture but added a great touch.

 

We embossed Chocolate Chip cardstock with an embossing folder and then punched it with the scalloped punch and glued them all around.  The crochet lace trim was done by placing stick tape around the edge and scrunching it around.  I used some of the Woodland Walk Designer Series Paper on the top and put the pearls down the seam.  It is quite gorgeous.  I loved this so much that the tree is sitting on the box on a little table in my office.

Decor Elements - Home Decor

My friend and demonstrator Elizabeth put this together using the Bird decor Element and a great tray I had. 

 

Here are a little 3 x 3 cards I made using some of the new stamp sets and product.  The bird is stamped with the new Hostess Set Punch Potpourri.

My Digital Studio & Decor Blocks!

Is this cool or what? We are having a booth at the Santa Clara Scrapbook Expo August 6 & 7.  We decided to go with a vintage wedding kind of theme!  Well, as I waited for my new stuff to arrive from the new catalog I was doing some work in My Digital Studio and came up with these!  So much fun.  The blocks are the Decor Blocks that are available in our Decor Elements Catalog. 

I made each of the photo squares using My Digital Studio

Notice how some of the elements extend off the squares - I just trimmed them off.  I did this on an 8 1/2" x 11" page so I could print it myself.  I used alot of the VIntage Overlays and Presto Patterns which are add on downloads but I use them all the time.

I printed my pages on very vanilla on my home computer which worked fine BUT I can see what they mean about  having the colors matching better with the printers:
 

The piece to the right is from the Elegant Soiree Designer Series Paper and should be the same color as the piece on the left.  It doesn't show on this project but if it was important I would either print the project through the My Digital Studio Printers or print out a piece of background paper with the other square.

To make putting the squares on the blocks easier the squares need to be trimmed to just under 3" square.  I glued them on using the liquid glue and a sponge. I have problems with this glue and don't like it but for this project it is the only glue to use.  After glue them on I got out our new distressing kit.

 

It comes in a cute little bag but this shows what is inside it.  My favorite are the little files.  OMG! They rock and are perfect for distressing the edges on this project.

 

So after roughing up all the edges and then using the sanding block to make sure there weren't pieces of hanging paper here is what it looked like

 

So then I took one of the distressing inks and went around the edges and in a little.  Then I went over again with Very Vanilla Craft Ink!  I LOVE THE RESULTS!

Rachels Wedding

One of LIz's vollleyball teammates that graduated lastyear had a wedding a few weeks before gradaution.  THis is the card I made. I used the brushed silver  paper and embossed it with the big shot.  The stamp set is the Blissful Bride from the Summer Mini.

Liz liked the canisters from our Scrapbook Expo and wanted to do a set of them.  Well, we were running out of time and I did them in the car.

 

Be sure to notice my coordinating Simply Adorned charm!

 

They turned out great and I can really say how easy the Decor Elements are to apply.

Whitney's Wedding

This is the card I made for Whitney's Wedding.  Same idea just a few changes.  I sprayed a little smooch spray to give it a little glam!  Here is the inside of the card:

 

I loved the stick on bling.

For Whitney's gift we wanted to do something a little more personal.  We got a frame and put the Happily Ever After Decor Element with some pictures of Whitney and Peter.

 

Now, if you look at the Decor Elements Brochure you will notice that there is an additional line.  In all the Decor Elements I have put up this is only the second one I have messed up.  We were doing it in the hotel room at graduation. We were happy with the end results though.  I had printed the pictures in My Digital Studio with some small flourishes on them and made them sepia tone.  We were really happy with the outcome.

More Pleasanton Scrapbook Expo Booth - Decor Elements

Elizabeth P put this decor element on this antique window for our booth.  Isn't it cool?  It was amazing how many people didn't know that Stampin' Up! has a Decor Elements line that has all kinds of home decor elements.  These  wall vinyls go on your walls, windows and decor items and yet you can peel them off when you want to change your look. 

 

The little canisters are made from sheets of decor elements vinyl that we cut buttons from using the Big Shot dies.  How easy is that?  The boxes on the bottom shelf were made with various Big Shot Dies and the Shades of Spring  Designer Series Paper from the Occasions Mini.

These canister labels are an example of one of our Hostess only Decor Elements offerings.

The welcome sign Chari B. made by just putting the vinyl on a stretched canvas and adding a few embellishments.  The large Tres' Chic Elizabeth P. made by painting a stretched canvas and then placing the vinyl on top.  The cool thing about the canvases is you can change those and the color as well.  If your walls are really textured this is a great inexpensive way to add art work!

Decor Elements Frame Class - SAB Class #2

This is the frame we are going to make in the Sale-A-Bration Class #3 on April 2. These are super simple to make and the great part is you can easily peel everything off and change it when you want.

 

This was on display in our booth at the Pleasanton Scrapbook Expo.  We had a different design also.

More Expo close ups!

Stinkin' Cute!  Liz P. did this for the booth.  While, I am not a big fan of the chipboard bird I have to admit this little display with the paper flowers are stinkin' cute.

 

These pictures are of the inside corner of our booth.    The big frame is in our Decor Elements Insert.  We couldn't believe how many demonstrators we talked to who didn't even know we carried it!  We actually had two of them.  I will show the other one later.  THe canisters up on the shelf were from Chari B. She used the Hostess Only Decor Elements to put the fun labels on.  We lost Tea in the set-up.  Chari also made the cool quilt in the corner using our scalloped square Big Shot Die.  People were amazed that you can cut up to 8 layers of fabric at one time with our Bigz or Original Dies.  Let me know if there is anything else you see that I didn't explain. 

If you can only see part of stuff - hang in there it will be coming later!

A few more Holiday Decor Elements

These are the other Decor ELements I put up.  The large Vintage Ornaments look awesome on the big windows.  The Reindeer are on my garage.  I love putting up Holiday decorations and these elements make it so quick and easy.

 I thought I would share with you some of the Decor Elements I have put up around the house for the Holidays.  THe upper picture is of the wreath and then I put the joy in the middle from Holiday Decor Sheet.  The lower one is in my studio.  They are the smaller vintage ornaments and Jingle Bells.

My Pretty Pink Computer

It is too cute!  My lovely husband bought me a new laptop when he saw how hooked on My DIgital Studio I was.  My old computer was fine it just had a small screen and short battery life, plus it ran the program a little slowly.  This new computer runs My Digital Studio super quick and has a big screen.  I love working on it and in fact many evenings when I am watching TV I am scrapbooking. Since getting My Digital Studio, I think I have completed more scrapping than in the past several YEARS!  If you are interested in seeing it give me a call and lets schedule a time!

This is a card I made with My Digital Studio.  I needed to make a bunch of these and so I did the design on the computer printed them off four to a sheet, trimmed them, mounted on Kraft card base and added a kraft corduroy button.  SImple cute and easy!

Back to the pretty pink computer!  I used our Decor Elements Upsy Daisy and bought the white and pink and laid them on top of each other slightly offset.  I think it is pretty cute!
 

Decor Element Blocks

Aren't these great?  These were made with the Decor Elements Blocks, Decor Elements Holiday Mix and Christmas Cocoa Specialty Designer Series Paper found in the Holiday Mini. All four sides of the block are covered.

This is what we will be making in the class on Tuesday, November 17 morning & evening.

 This class must be paid for in advance by November 6 if you are planning on attending.  I need to order the supplies!  I will also have kits available for this project with pictures showing the various sides of the blocks.  The kits will include the paper cut into 3" squares, the Decor Elements and necessary ribbon and bling to finish according to pictures.  If you would like your kits shipped to you there will be an additional charge.

Decor Elements & My Digital Studio

 
  

I am donating a copy of My Digital Studio and a Decor Element to a charity auction and wanted to figure out a way to show off these products when I am not there.  I decided to make an album of the various ways I have used Decor Elements.  I basically used the pictures and posts from the blog and scrapped them using My Digital Studio.  ON the various pages I showed various ways to use My Digital Studio. It turned out way cute.  I even ordered it in leather so I would have another sample of another kind of album.

Once I received it I realized it needed some Decor Elements on the cover.  THe Title is definitely not that crooked in person!

My Digital Studio is way too fun and easy to scrap with.  Be sure to check out some of the things I have done!

 

Dorm Room 2009

So, I realize I have missed a couple of days but I told you back and forth to Oregon to watch Liz play volleyball gets me a little disorganized.  Recently we spent a week and did some golf, went to the casino, and watched volleyball.  I also decorated the girls apartment.  They put in their request for some Decor Elements,  I made sure they got their before I did and  Liz and I spent a morning decorating.

This is the collage on their living room wall.  The pictures are of the four girls who share this apartment.  THey call them their "Family Pictures".  The frames they had bought last year had fallen apart so I had to replace those but it looks real nice.

This is on one of the other living room walls.  I will tell you these elements with lots of little pieces were quite a challenge.  SInce this is student housing they use industrial strength paint that is very slick.  I had to work a lot slower than I normally do but the trick was to rub with your hand before trying to take off the transfer sheet and warm it up so it would stick.

This is kinda hard to show.  THey have a long hall down the apartment with this long blank wall.  So we did the friends are forever and then used the Circus Circles ELements in the three different sizes.

When we were done the girls were so happy it made the whole apartment so much homier.  A couple of nights later Don fed the volleyball team after practice and when the team walked in they were in awe at how  nice it all looked.  Most of the girls still live in regular dorm rooms.  You have to be a junior or senior to live in these apartments.

Just a little story - Don wanted to cook for the girls.  He does pretty much all the cooking now that the kids are gone.  I don't really l ike to cook.  He wanted to grill chicken and there are some propane grills in the complex but they looked a little sketchy and it was supposed to rain.  SO while I was golfing he went shopping and then to the City park and decided he would grill the chicken there and heat it up that evening.  He forgot to buy starter for the charcoal and had a little trouble getting it to start and created a lot of smoke in the process.  The next thing he heard were sirens and the fire department were entering the park having been called for the smoke. They just waved at him and left!  The girls needless to say loved the story and the food!

Halloween Decor Elements

 

So now that it is October I can share my Halloween Decor.  My husband complained that I put this on our door at the end of August.  I put it up for my Demonstrator Get Together.  BUt now I will share it with you. These Decor Elements are just too easy.  I was a little frustrated because the Double Double one wasn't going to fit the way it came.

 

But Elizabeth P. one of my demonstrator friends suggested I cut it in half and make it one long line.  That fit perfectly.

  I thought my front door looks quite seasonal.  I also put up some in my office.

My Studio

 Recently, I put the finishing touches on My Studio.  I feel so grown up calling it that but that is what it is.  I love working in here on projects and it is so nice to have room to work on multiple projects, hold classes and move around.  This picture shows the display I found over the fireplace.  It is a wire display for Holiday Cards.  It works great to put card samples on.

 

This is the the side of the fireplace.  The pew racks I found when we lived in Texas. They are from the back of a pew.  My husband mounted them on the wall and I have my various small albums and stuff in there for guests to look at.  Below you can see I put some Halloween Decor Elementsup.  A little early but I wanted to give everyone time to see them.  I plan to change this seasonally.

 

This is the big window that looks out on my backyard.  A much nicer view than the front.  The little shelves above hold various 3-d samples and I can hang thins like the INSPIRE garland Elizabeth P. made me.

 

While this wall is not exactly in my studio, when I sit at my computer I see these off to the side.  When my kids graduated Middle School the school they went to had you make these collages and put them on display at graduation.  I had them framed and the y have been on this wall ever since.  It is so fun to see them small everyday.  When I saw the Decor Elements  too great for small dreams - I knew it just needed to go here.

My friend and downline Cherie M.  Sent me this picture of her breakfast area.  She just moved to this house and the stripe was on the wall.  She immediately saw how cute this Decor Element would look.  I couldn't believe how well it matched.  In less than 15 minutes Cherie had a cool decorator effect.  You can also see a vase in the right hand side of the picture that she used the Organic Outlines on.

 

Here is another vase she did with the Upsy Daisies.  The Decor Elements are just too quick and easy.  I just did some minor redecorating or freshening around my house and will have some more pictures for you!

My Studio

 

As Stampin' Up! Starts a new catalog year - I thought I would share some pictures of my "studio".  This past spring I traded rooms with my husband.  He now has a "man cave" which is the downstairs bedroom.  That had been my office and studio for the past 10 years.  The bigger room next door has been our family room and computer area.  Once we faced the reality that our children were not living at home in the near future I started a campaign to switch rooms.  After he was home one night while I trekked bath and forth from the dining room to my office during a class he agreed to the switch.  I LOVE my new room.  It is so nice to have room that I can spread out in when working on a project, have classes in without having to carry things and display my scrapbooks.  My class members have enjoyed it. 

One of the funnest things about setting up my new studio was doing this wall.  It was fun to arrange various items and combine them with our decor elements.  I think it so represents who I am and what I do.  If only I could hang a golf club!  The other side of the room has a view of the back yard and gets a lot of sun a big difference from my little cave.
