Cute little Box!

Isn't this a cute little box?  This is one of the projects we made at the August Simply Stamp Time.  We used the Scalloped Square die for the front and back and with the cool Simply Scored, we made a little strip inside and turned it into a quick box.  The ladies were sure it was going to be hard and were amazed at how easy it was.  The cute little pennants are made the cool new Pennant punch.  A simple easy project.

Happy Birthday Don!

For my husband's birthday this past weekend, I finally finished the album of his umpire experience in Poland, Summer of 2009.  His passion is umpiring for Little League and spends most of his spare time doing that and spent 10 days at a tournament in Poland in 2009 and will be going again this summer.  He kept a blog of his experience and I turned it into a scrapbook for him.  You can read the details of the experience here Don's Poland Umpire Blog.  Here are just a few of the pages.

I wanted to give it the feel of a journal so I used the journal paper from the Love Letters download.  The rick rack and other strips are from the Terrific Trims. The papers for the stars and trips uses the Desktop calendar papers download.  I made it looked like all the papers and pictures were stapled or taped.

A local photographer came and took pictures of games to sell aso some of these great action shots I was able to get from him.

As you can see my husband takes his umpiring seriously.  The cool thing about this book is it is a way for him to share this experience and something his grandkids will get to see to learn more about their grandfather.  That is what is so important about getting these things down.

With all the rain lately, I have had a lot of time at home since my golf has been canceled! AHHH!  But the good news is that I have been getting caught up on some scrapbooks.  This one just arrived in the mail today.

Doesn't it look cool?  It will sit on our coffee table with the other one I did of our trip a couple of years ago.

Some Cool Cards!

Here is a really cute card sent to me by Nancy Ferb!  I get so excited when I see her name on the return address - I know there will some awesome eye candy inside!

The cool red and black - I would never have thought of doing this combination for Christmas.  The duo of black lace and crochet trim - way cool. I really love all the texture and vintage look it gives!

Pennie M. is another name I like to see on my envelopes.  This is a recent thank you card she sent me.  I love how she punched out the flowers to give them some dimension!

 

 

Deck the Halls!

I am so not into decorating!  I am still not feeling good and just can't seem to get into decorating so I did a little!  Our kids aren't coming home this Christmas and having been recovering all fall it just is not working!  But here is what I did yesterday.  You will probably laugh because even though I didn't put up all my decorations I ended up making some stuff!  Go figure!

This is my front entry.  THe frame I shared with you in an earlier post.  The tree has ornaments that I made for the Scrapbook Expo Booth.

These are the 3 My Digital Studio Christmas albums I have done.  The top one is going to each of the kids with their Christmas package.  I love how easy and quick it is to make the albums and put as part of the display.  I realize I didn't share the stuff with you I made but I have to go - husband has the day off.  I will get back and share with you some of the stuff I made yesterday later.

10 years of Volleybal & My Digital Studio

THis is a page from the scrapbook I made for my daughter using My Digital Studio!  Liz  played volleyball for 10 years  at 5"4 1/4" tall that is quite an accomplishment.  THe lessons she learned from these years of playing really helped make her the wonderful young adult she is today!  We are so proud of her sticking it out and will miss watching her play.  I am not sure what to do with my fall this year since it is the first time I don't have volleyball to schedule around!  Back to the scrapbook!

I had collected all her stuff for all these years. I kept them organized and kept saying I would do a scrapbook at the end of middle school, put it in her high school albums, on and on I kept putting it off!  I finally was realizing if I didn't get it done it wasn't going to happen!  THank goodness for My Digital Studio.  I spent one evening scanning in newspaper articles, and some pictures, took some APS film to be changed into digital and I was set to go.  My first run at putting pictures down I had around 120+ pages. OOps!  My Digital Studio has a max of 100 pages.  Then the problem was no volleyball images! (Liz has complained for years about this!) BUt I did some research online and found a digital download of volleyball I liked. Felt like a criminal since I have NEVER used non Stampin' Up! stuff in my scrapbooks!  Over a couple of months I got the book down to under a 100 pages.  I printed it in 12 x 12.  Liz LOVED it!  Everyone enjoyed looking at it over Graduation weekend.  Don't worry - I am not putting all 100 pages online!  Here are a few of the pages that use Stampin' Up! elements from My Digital Studio!

 

Take a Sentimental Journey

I love to travel and love to scrap my travels.  The Travel Collection in the Summer Mini is perfect for a little travel scrapbook.  There is paper - Travel Journal, and 6 x 6" album, stamp set-Sentimental Journey, Chipboard books and punches.  Really Fun stuff.

 

Kaylene made this great little card with the Briefcase Chipboard and various other items from this collection. 

 

THe other side has a place to right a note.  THese fit into the padded envelopes that we have.  You could also use all the little briefcases together and make a little book about a trip.  She sprayed the chipboard with gold smooch spritz to give it a battered look.  Here are her other samples:

 

This fold is so quick and simple.  Cut a 12" piece of paper into 6" squares.  Fold 2 squares in half and overlap one piece in the back and then fold down the front flaps!  Great way to use designer series paper for a card.

Happy Memorial Day!

Today we honor our military!  This is my Navy boy who just promoted to (or will any day!) to Lt. j.g.!  This summer we will going to his Winging and are very proud of his choice in careers!

I am sure I shared some of our adventures at his Commissioning in 2008 at the United States Naval Academy but I thought that I should show a few more of these pictures on Memorial Day.

I did this album well before My Digital Studio and made one album for each of the families that were there - a total of 5.  Boy am I glad that I have My Digital Studio to do the albums from my daughter, Liz's College Graduations ( yesterday as you are reading this!)

I used the 8" x 8" chipboard albums and used 3" x 5" photos that I ordered from an online photo printing service.  This saved on cropping and cost. But limited what you would do on an album.

 

This is the cover.  I just printed out a collage of pictures and applied it to the cover.  By the time I got these done we did have My Digital Studio so the cover was made using it.

 

I sued the various stars in our Catalog, punches, Big Shot dies, and stamps.  Define your life had many definitions that added a touch to various pages.

 

Here is his girlfriend (now Fiance) and myself putting on his officer shoulder boards - a huge honor.

 
My new very proud ensign!  If you noticed I did not use any military stamp set.  I used Certified along with the stars and punches.  A good thing to remember that you don't need to have that perfect match!

At the ceremony the midshipman all throw there covers  (hat) in the air to be replaced by their officer covers.  Kids at the ceremony run on the field and claim the midshipmans covers.  Many of the mids write notes or put money in the hats.  Chris' cousins all got hats and thought that it was great fun.  As you can see we had a great week and I love making albums for these events to share with those who attend.  Now with My Digital Studio it is sooooo much easier!

Sneak Peak

Today, my friend Sue came by to help me fine tune a couple of her scrapbooks.  She has been catching up on some 6 x 6 albums.  She has done a small album for each of her children's high school & college graduation.  She has also done a book for the adventures she has had with a group of women.  As I was working on this I remembered one of the new stamp sets from Summer Mini.  It is called Favorite Thoughts, and is all sayings about women.  This one stamp fit her album perfectly.  I stamped it on the binding with a black Stayz on pad.  The binding on these post albums come out  and lay flat to stamp on.  It looks so cool!

Last Club project!

This is the last Club Project Ever! - not really just in the future I will be showing you Simply Stamp Time Projects.  We made this project last month at club.  It uses that awesome paper Sending love with the glitter already on it.   The little epoxy brads are just too stinkin' cute.  Tomorrow and Wednesday is club - if you forgot to RSVP and really want to come contact me - wadainker@aol.com and maybe there is still room!

My Digital Studio Featured Artist

Elisa H.  one of my First Level downline shared a fabulous album she made for her mother.  She made it for her mothers 85th birthday.  She wanted it to be simple and a collage of pictures.  It is a unbelievable album.  I loved looking at it.  The first picture is of the cover.  It is a white photo cover and she did it in 12 x 12.

 

Many of the older pictures were black and white and the arrangements Elisa did were just so lovely.  She kept apologizing for it being so simple but I think that is what gave it it's beauty.  She had a couple of pages where she added some gray.

 

The little bit of contrast really helped bring those pages to life.  The one thing that really struck me was that as she got to newer pages and colored photos were being used it is clear that they are from different eras and some of the colors had changed. It would have been tempting to make all the pictures black and white but Elisa left them as they were and I love the pages and how they show the different times.

 

Isn't it great how much is said on this page just by the different colors?

This is the back cover! I just can't say enough about how much I love this album.

I have been a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator since 1991.  I have seen a lot of new products and trends come and go and I have to say I am SOOO excited about this one I cannot see straight.  My Digital Studio (available in the Holiday Mini) is the most amazing new product in paper crafting that I have ever seen.  I am loving it.  As a demonstrator I have had it for about month.  I have already completed one album and have many more in the works.  I think I might actually get some of those projects I have been thinking about done!  I especially love that I can take my scrapbooking on the road with me.  I have created a photo album of my Christmas '08 Scrapbook for you to see the potential.  For this album I used one the pre done templates and then added a few pages.  You can also create from scratch.  Here are some pictures  of a completed album.

5 Scrapbooks Continued

 

Here are some pages from the Europe book I did this past Christmas. Check out yesterday's post for more information on the album.  In designing the layouts I needed to figure out a way to make the pages quickly and no cropping of photos.  Again Liz to the rescue.  I usually print all my pictures at home but we decided 3 1/2" x 5" were the best size for the 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" pages.  So Liz comments "Have Longs print them!"  I did her one better and uploaded them to an online place and because of the quantity I paid less than 9 cents each!  And no cropping.

 

We then picked a set of Designer Series Paper we liked and looked at what accessories went with that paper. As I describe the various elements and process keep in mind while some of the items are now unavailable or will be soon that you can translate this process to the color palette of your pictures!

I took the solid cardstock and the background paper to Kinko's to have it cut.  The  Designer Series Paper I had cut to 6 x 6. 

 

Since we did so much Military History (much to Liz and Ali's torture!) I thought the stars were the perfect accent.  So I went with the Stars Designer Brads (#112572), Classic Background Stamp Set (retiring,111074),Classic Stars Wheel ( #111254), both Star Punches and the corner punch.  The Windsor Knot Paper included Sages Shadow, Chocolate Chip, So Saffron, and Old Olive.  So I went with ribbons of different texture in these colors - Double Stitched Chocolate Chip (#111849), 5/8" grosgrain Old Olive, 7/8" Poly Twill So Saffron - which the stars stamped on great with the Basic Brown Stamp Pad.  I only used one color stamp pad - again 200 pages!!!!

 

For those of you who know me, know I very seldom drink, but if you have ever been to Belgium it is all about the Beer and Chocolate.  So I did indulge!  Ok so know that I had my layout going I had to figure out how to journal.  I had kept a journal of the trip. Now, if you are reacting as the "kids" did when I said we were keeping a daily journal - stop!  I kept a journal of things we did and comments. Not one of these thoughtful introspective ones.  First of that is not my style and I would have had a mutiny.  As it was it was pretty much just the girls who would make notes on the previous day each morning!  In fact the journal became "Life according to Don!"  He kept us so entertained.  I wanted to include some of these comments so that the kids wouldn't forget some of the silly and fun little moments.  Here is how I did it. I took the most solid of the Designer Series Paper and trimmed it to 8 1/2" wide.  I then typed in little quotes from the journal - inside jokes!  I used the circle punches and scattered the sayings in appropriate places.  The circle punches repeated the circle of the designer brads and added the fun touch.  The kids laughed every time they read one.  When we were looking at them with the rest of the family they led to some funny telling of stories.  So sometimes less is more!

 

Well, I hope you enjoy these few pages from the album.  As I write this and share these with you I am thinking how cool these would have been able to make with digital scrapbooking!  Yes, Stampin' Up! will be having digital scrapbooking later this year.  And while I love my scrapbooks there are definitely projects where doing it digitally would be easier.  But I am very pleased with myself at how easily these came together.  To make 5 scrapbooks with 40 pages each in about 3 days is amazing!  I hope to draw up a scrap map for this in the next few weeks. 

I hope you see that these types of projects are my passion.  I LOVE doing these. I have one started and was just waiting for the new catalog.  My sons commissioning week!  If you have a project like this you would like help figuring out and design assistance contact me!

5 Scrapbooks!

 

This past summer we took a fabulous trip to Normandy, France, Belgium and Heidelberg, Germany. Both our children(?) and girlfriend and niece joined us. We had 3 fabulous weeks together with a lot of adventures.  Traveling with 4 20-22 year olds is definitely different than traveling with my husband.  I wanted to give each of the kids a scrapbook of the trip and one for us so how do I make 5 scrapbooks with pulling my hair out.  Plus I had a huge box of memorabilia.  I thought I was going to scan in the various memorabilia and trying to photoshop something, my brilliant daughter said "Mom, just take a picture of it all."  So we laid out all the stuff and took a high resolution picture.

 

This was the original picture that we cropped an resized to fit the cover of our Chipboard albums (#112456).  I had to take it to Kinkos to print since the size of the cover is larger than my printer will print.  Then I just glued it on and covered in mod podge.  Isn't It awesome?

I even did pictures of stuff for the inside cover.  My son and his girlfriend had gone to Berlin and Munich before joining us so I did their stuff for the inside back cover and the rest just had some coordinating Designer series paper.  The first pictures shows the spine where we just took a picture of the map we used and my daughter used word and just made a title!

Stay tuned for tomorrow to see how I did the insides quickly.  A teaser is that each album used 80 pictures for a total of 400 photos.  My husband actually put in all the pictures so you will need to see how easy but awesome this album turned out!

Grandma's Brag Book

 

My husband was talking to his mother about what to get her for Christmas. You know how it is trying to figure that out for an 84 year old woman!  She mentioned that she would like some pictures from Chris' Commissioning.  WHAT?  We then realized that she had not brought a camera to commissioning and with all the activity we hadn't noticed.  Now, it is definitely on my list to do some sort of album of the week for everyone who attended but that may take a few more months and I can't believe Margaret didn't have any pictures to share of her Grandsons graduation from the Naval Academy and all the events she attended that week.  Let me tell you - she was the oldest of 16 people there and kept up and was an absolute joy to have.

So needless to say feeling extremely guilty I NEEDED to remedy this situation.  I sat down at the computer and flipped through literally HUNDREDS of photos.  My sisters and my mom took PLENTY of pictures!  I found all of the ones of Margaret and that highlighted the various events.  Keeping in mind I wanted something that she could carry in her purse and show her friends.  I narrowed it down to about 20 pictures.  Now, what to stamp?  (This was the week before Christmas and keep in mind I had tried to get everything done before the kids got home!)  I flipped through the catalog and realized that the Simply Sent Card Elements - Rock Star and the Starring You Stamp Set were perfect and I had one on hand!  In a couple of quick hours I put together the CUTEST little brag book!  Look for the pattern in an upcoming class.  I am waiting to see if we have some new card elements to use in the new catalog!

You might be wondering about the head sticking out of the bag.  My daughter Liz was unable to attend commissioning week due to finals week and to keep her with us we printed out a cardboard of her head and carried her around.  She had a grand week and made it a little easier not having her there!       

Needless to say, Margaret loved the book.  She couldn't wait to take it and show her friends. And I have a whole new format for little brag books.  It is pretty simple, I am sure you could figure it out but if not stay tuned for a class offering.  With this and another project I have developed a real LOVE of 3 1/2 x 5 pictures.

Baby Gift Idea

My friend Sue needed to have a new baby gift and I had read about some books that hold cd's of baby pictures.  The idea is a pocket for each month of the first year.  You put the cd with pictures of each month in the pocket and you are all organized.  She thought that sounded awesome so the other day we made some.  The one I saw was in an actual album and I played with the design so that it was a littler simpler.  These books use 1/2 of a Simply Scrapping and then 2 -  6" squares of chipboard.  I used my bind it all but you could tie with ribbon.

This is what a couple of pages look like.  Look for a class on this after the holidays.  Though you could probably figure this out pretty easy.  You could even do this for years of school, or anything else and have a decorative way to store cd's of pictures in an organized way.

Country Living - Photo Flip Book

 

This little photo flip book was made using pieces from the Country Living Kit.  I love how it flips out in different ways.  Between this project and the other Country Living projects and the Best of Both Worlds 2 album, I have now scrapped all my Christmas pictures from 2007.  This is a record I am usually madly finishing these up as I am decorating so that the album can go out.

I have 4 volumes of consecutive albums of our Christmas' for all 25 years.  Once the kids were born I have Santa Pictures from them up until the last couple - they refused!  I love these albums but decided that I am now going to do these fun things that can add to the holiday decor around the house!  They have been so much fun!  I will show you some pages from my albums in the next couple of weeks!  They are great fun to look at and we enjoy looking back each year!

Country Living & Stampin' Up! - Holiday Collection Kit

 

Here is one of the projects Elizabeth, Chari & I came up with.  Check out how fun this is open!

 

Can't you just see this nestled in a tree or on a mantle or shelf?  It was really easy, the chipboard and paper are all die-cut to match, just glue and stick add some brads and ribbons!

This is just the first project - wait until you see tomorrows!

Stampin' Up! Make & Share Rock-a-Bye Girl/Boy

 

Last week I had the pleasure and honor of attending the first Stampin' Up! Leadership Summit in Salt Lake City.  Demonstrators who had reached the level of Senior Executive or above or who are on or had been on the Advisory Board where invited.   A total of a little over 100 demonstrators were invited and 80 attended.  When you realize we have over 40,000 demonstrators you can see what an honor this is!  It was a very filled 2 days learning about some things coming up, how decisions are made and interacting with the Corporate Executive Team!  I can't share most of this due to confidentiality but I can tell you that after 18+ years as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator I am amazed that I am still awed and overwhelmed at how focused they are on the demonstrators and customers and not just the bottom line.  Don't get me wrong, a profit is necessary to stay in business but it is not the only driving force.  Here is a great example.

At any Stampin' Up! Event you have to stamp - I mean that is our thing!  So one evening we had a Stamp and Share!  Stampin' Up! provided everyone with a Rock-A-Bye Simply Scrappin, an album, and a roll of ribbon.  All the supplies we needed were on the tables as well as detailed instructions.  It was such an enjoyable evening to sit and make these lovely albums for a good cause.  The picture is of my table who had a hysterical time stamping.  You have to understand I am not too good at completing make and takes at Stampin' Up! Events and in fact have quite a reputation for this.  I was the first one done at my table!

The albums were being donated to a charity organization that provides housing for teenage mothers and helps them get started.  These were lovely albums for them to record some of the baby events. 

 

This is Pam, one of the Stampin' Up! Corporate Team members, who was responsible for this event.  She is packing up the albums to take to the home for mothers.  Can you believe the generosity Stampin' Up! showed in doing this?

Acrylic Album - with Pictures

 

I am visiting my daughter Liz, at her school this weekend.  I gave her the acrylic album I made last night at dinner.  She was really excited.  Liz and I have traveled and done little adventures together and my intent was to scrapbook these various adventures.  Well, I finally came to the realization that I simply would never get these done. But I did want something for us to remember these adventures.  In the next few years as she graduates and starts a new job these times will not be easy to come by and I wanted her to have something that will remind her how much fun we have and make her want to make the time.  ( I always pay so it isn't like she would have to pay!)

So, as I was working on this album for class the rub-ons and layout really worked for the key pictures from these trips.  I did them all in black and white because they are taken over many years and places and so the colors would vary widely.

One of the reasons I love these acrylics is how you can see through from one layer to the next.  It is kind of hard to see the picture behind the adventure moments rub-on is of Liz taking pictures at Buckingham Palace.  She loves to photograph and really takes some good pictures.

 

This picture is the other side and the little pull out is the reserve of her picture behind the rub-ons.

 

The other thing that I have finally started doing is doing rub-ons that move from the picture to the page.  It is amazing the difference in the look and how it ties all together.  I especially like doing this because journaling is not one of my favorite things to do and so by doing this I can add my commentary.

Acrylic Album Class RSVP Extended!

 

I am traveling so I am extending the deadline to sign up for the Acrylic Album class to Sunday, September 21 at 9:00 PM.  The pictures show the pages before I added pictures and bound it with the Bind It All.  I was planning on showing you some pictures with real photos of me and my daughter BUT I am on the road in Indianapolis and forgot my camera cord so I will have to see what I can do.  I will work on it.  But here are some pictures of a few of the pages.  I put black and white pictures of Liz and I on various adventures we have had in the last couple of years.  I think she will really like it.  In fact I printed a second set of pictures so I can make one for me too.

You will have enough supplies from the Simply Scrappin'to make another albumm, more pages or cards.   To make 2 entire books you will need another packet of page dividers and rub-ons.  Everything else is enough for 2 albums!

Chipboard Photo Album and Bella Rose paper!

Each year at the Stampin' Up! Convention I make some sort of gift for my direct downline - 1st levels.  This is a thank you for being part of my Stampin' Up! Group and taking the time and resources from their lifes to attend Convention - but if you are a demonstrator who wouldn't!

This year we were able to pre-order a few packets of the new Bella Rose paper so I was able to make these cute little photo  albums using Dreams duJour stamp set. 

They all were excited and couldn't wait to share them with their customers and use it as a class.  Well, stay tuned this will be an upcoming class by email that should be offered this coming week.  FIrst I have to get through my local downline meeting tomorrow and then all kinds of stuff to do with the internet!  Here are a couple more pictures to tease you:

Acrylic Album - Austria!

This past week my friend Kaylene was visiting in the area and I was able to spend a day with her.  The day before I decided I wanted to make an album for her of our trip last year in Austria.  Kaylene and I met and spent a week jaunting around Austria together and had a great time.  I quickly made her an album of some of the pictures.  I did it in the acrylic format that I love right now.  I did not do a lot of journaling because the stories behind some of these pictures are long and only mean something to us or if we are telling it.  When I gave it to her, her family was there and it was so fun to hear her tell all our silly stories as she showed them the pictures.  Enjoy the pictures of the album and think about signing up for my Acrylic Album class or ordering a kit.

I used our 8 1/2" x 11" Page dividers from page 193 of the catalog.  SInce Kaylene is a demonstrator I wanted to use some new product so I used the Bella Rose Paper and the scallop border punch. (TOTALLY AWESOME PUNCH!) 

One of the really fun parts of acrylic albums is the seeing through from page to page.  Using rub-ons makes this fun because it works on more than one page.

These two pictures are a good example you can see the rub-on in the corner on both sides and it is an accent on both pages.
